G-Star and Facetasm Design ‘Denim Depot’ Capsule
G-Star Raw and Facetasm joined forces for “Denim Depot Universe,” an eight-piece capsule collection merging streetwear with traditional Japanese tailoring.
While the avant-garde label—whose name is a neologism of the word “facet,” in reference to one side of something with many—typically draws inspiration from Tokyo’s urban culture to blend Japanese streetwear with high fashion, Facetasm went Dutch with G-Star.

“Stepping into the archive was impressive, with its massive collection of garments from different genres and eras; for someone in the industry, it felt like heaven,” Hiromichi Ochiai, Facetasm’s founder and designer, said. “I was moved and spent a very fulfilling time there. The techniques and pieces I saw proved how serious G-Star is about fashion.”
While exploring the Rem Koolhaas 35,000-plus piece Amsterdam-based archive, Ochiai drew inspiration from vintage space exploration attire and military uniforms. The resulting eight-piece capsule is a “reinterpretation” of those references, viewed through Ochiai’s deconstructed lens, produced by G-Star. Standouts include the Space Track Jacket and Pants, influenced by old-school NASA jackets, and the Apollo Jacket, which pulls from G-Star’s archival spacesuits. Each piece is made from Italian denim, accompanied by black and white T-shirts.
Osaka-based photographer Masakado Nishibayashi shot the campaign at Misono Universe, a retro landmark in the city known as the Manchester of Japan. Audio-visual laboratory Cosmic Lab created the campaign’s video, which shows difficult-to-reach, “uncharted areas,” such as the cosmos.
The “Denim Depot Universe” collection is now live online. On Saturday, brick-and-mortar shoppers can hit the G-Star x Facetasm pop-up at Nubian boutiques in Tokyo and Osaka, select G-Star and Facetasm stores globally and exclusive retail partners.
