Gabrielle Union Doesn't Make Resolutions, but She Does Have a New Year's Tip We're Stealing
To say Gabrielle Union is busy is an understatement. When she's not acting and writing bestselling books, Union is busy raising the five-year-old daughter she shares with NBA star Dwyane Wade, Kaavia James, and three stepchildren.
That's why when the holiday season rolls around, Union says her top self-care tip is to do...absolutely nothing.
"I don't do a thing," Union tells Parade. "Luckily, because we have raised our children with the village mentality, which we all should do, we each have a chance to do absolutely nothing."

As Union explains it, because there are constantly aunts, uncles and cousins around, everyone gets time to sleep in and get a chunk of time to themselves. You are accountable to yourself and at least get a chunk of time to yourself. "You can do whatever you want with that. You can lay around and watch seasons 1 and 2 of The Gilded Age, or you can go work out," she says. "This allows each of us to really, truly unplug. It allows us to put our phones down. Whether we're at home or on vacation, I always say this is what we have to do before we jump back into the rat race."

While this is a hack we're definitely adopting ASAP, what we were really intrigued by is how Union approaches preparing for a new year. Spoiler alert: She does not make New Year's resolutions.
"I stopped making resolutions 20 years ago," she says. "Instead, I make a vision board every New Year's Eve. I write myself a check made out to the Law of Attraction. Outside of this year when we were in a double strike, this has really proven to keep me focused on what it is that I want and less focused on what I don't want."
Ok, we're absolutely stealing this idea!
