In good news for hopeless romantics everywhere, Gabrielle Union-Wade and Dwyane Wade are still going strong…or at least they seem to be.
Of course, all this is based on social media, where the A-list couple has impressively flaunted their love for each other and their children for what seems like forever. So determining how strong their five-year marriage actually is, is a task for an expert. Luckily, Terri Orbuch, PhD, author of 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage From Good to Great and professor at Oakland University in Michigan, is here to analyze the couple’s body language.
If their love is the real deal, it means you can count on even more jaw-dropping photoshoots, snaps of their 11-month old daughter Kaavia James, and outfit-coordinated family vacations of or, as the Wades call them, #WadeWorldTours. But if all they’re doing is posturing for the 'gram, you might have to find another duo to dub #goals—and I will personally need at least six months by myself to grieve. Let's hope that never has to happen.
And now, the facts:
1) Gabrielle and Dwyane have a bright future together.
Orbuch is quick to point out how big the gap between the actress and basketball star is, but she assures that all the other super-positive body language cancels it out. Take a look:
"The two of them are walking confidently," says Orbuch. "They're so positively sure about being together," that they can look straight ahead and know the other is right by their side no matter what. Plus, they're stepping forward on the same foot, which means they have similar goals for their joint future.
2) Gabrielle is proud to be with Dwyane.
This time, Gabrielle and Dwyane are pressed up against each other, which means they're totally bonded. And while Orbuch gets the vibe that Dwyane feels all the feels for his wife, it's Gabrielle's body language that's stealing the show.
The evidence? Her feet. They're angled toward Dwyane despite her smiling toward the camera, conveying that she's got nothing but her man on the brain. This, combined with her eye contact with the lens, is her way of telling the world: "Yeah, I'm with him, and I couldn't be happier."
3) They love each other like nobody's watching.
At Dwyane's '70s-themed retirement party, the couple couldn't get enough of each other. "Enjoying total body contact" like this in public, says Orbuch, is a sign of love that runs deep.
Take Gabrielle's double-armed hug wrapped all the way around Dwayne to pull him in as close as possible. Would you do that with someone you're not all-in with? Then there's their closed eyes, which Orbuch says indicates how easily these two can block out the rest of the world when they're together.
4) Gabrielle is Dwyane's rock.
"Driftin on a memory, ain't no place I'd rather be..." was Gabrielle's caption for this adorable photo snapped in Italy. And according to Dwyane's relaxed body language, he wouldn't trade this moment for anything either. "Dwyane is lying back onto Gabrielle, symbolizing how comfortable he is figuratively and literally leaning on her. He knows she'll be there to support him through all the good and the bad," says Orbuch.
Psst, that heart-shaped necklace Dwayne's rocking? It doesn't hurt either!
5) They're all about family.
And remain a family they will, per Orbuch.
Following Gabrielle's infertility struggles, Kaavia arrived via surrogate in 2018, making the Wades a family of seven. (Dwyane has three sons from previous relationships and is the guardian of his nephew.) Gabrielle and Dwyane's pride for their newest addition is practically spilling out of this photo.
According to Dwyane's body language—pulling Gabrielle in close and staring at his daughter—he has what's most important to him right there in his arms, Orbuch explains. And based on the way Gabrielle's body is pressed up against her hubs—and her adoring gaze at their baby girl—says she's feeling much of the same.
6) Their intimacy is top-notch.
Ugh. This...it's just so...perfect.
Between their luxe vacations, Gab and Dwyane made time to remind the world of their hotness via social media and Orbuch is Here. For. It. Dwyane's arm around Gabrielle, his closed eyes, and his face touching hers proves how "mesmerized he still is by her," she says. (Take notes, people.)
Meanwhile, Gabrielle's lean on Dwyane, her genuine smile, and her head angled toward his is peak body language. These two might be parents, but they can still get "lost in each other's bodies and love," Orbuch adds.
7) They're always on the same page.
While it's usually a good sign for couples to be looking at each other, there's just as much positivity in having similar body language. Here, Gabrielle and Dwyane are both standing in relaxed positions and wearing comfy clothes. It seems simple, but it means a lot, says Orbuch. More specifically, that when Dwyane wants something, Gabrielle will usually be down, and vice versa. Their relationship works because they're completely in sync.
