Gabrielle Union sent body-shamed TV anchor Demetria Obilor a dress, and she looks amazing in it
Traffic anchor Demetria Obilor just received a much-deserved sweet surprise from actress and designer Gabrielle Union. Obilor has been the target of repeated cyberbullying because of her appearance, and she’s finally getting the type of attention she deserves.
The Dallas anchor posted a photo of herself in the studio looking stunning in a gorgeous two-tone dress. The tan and black sleeveless number was professional yet sexy thanks to the knee-length skirt and a frame that accentuated her figure. The dress was a gift from Union from her New York & Company line. “MANY thanks to @itsgabrielleu and her team for coming through with the beautiful dresses from the Gabrielle Union for @nyandcompany collection! Feeling like Miss Mary Jane herself! thank you so much! ” Obilor captioned the photo. She posted another photo of herself in the dress with a huge smile on her face and the caption, “Liiiike… New dress, who dis???” clearly loving the way she looked and felt in the frock.

The outfit also included a pair of black strappy heels, and to top off the sleek look, Obilor tied her usually loose and voluminous hair back into a tight bun.

And the Being Mary Jane star agreed. Union responded approvingly to Obilor’s tweet with a string of emoji: “.”

Back when Obilor was working for KLAS 8 News Now in Las Vegas, she received a racist letter addressing those gorgeous, natural curls, and she responded on Twitter with more poise than most can muster. “Here’s one of the racist, hateful emails I’ve received for rocking my natural hair on TV,” she wrote in May, sharing a screenshot of the letter in which a person presumes her hair is unclean and smells bad. “The first few times I got emails like that, I was enraged, but I knew if I responded (the way I wanted to) I’d probably lose my job,” Obilor tells Yahoo Beauty of the incident. “And honestly, it’s not worth going back and forth via email with someone that ignorant. Instead, I tell high school tour groups who stop by the station about these sorts of experiences, so they can prepare themselves for what it’s going to take to work in this industry, keeping your composure and picking your battles. There’s nothing to be won cursing out some racist fool online — much to lose, though.”
And that’s not even why Union sent her this sexy dress. A few weeks ago, now at her new job in Dallas, Obilor was body-shamed for wearing a form-fitting dress. A Twitter user called out Obilor for being a “size 16/18 woman in a size 6 dress,” saying “she looks ridiculous.”

The hater went on to say that she would no longer be watching Channel 8. Obilor’s response? She focused on the outpouring of love and support she received after haters said she was too big or too curvy to be on TV. “This is the way that I’m built. This is the way I was born. I’m not going anywhere, so if you don’t like it, you have your options,” she said in a video posted to her Twitter account.
And then she showed haters they couldn’t control her wardrobe by rocking this equally tight dress on TV just a few weeks later, and she looked amazing. Mic drop.
