Gaffney's Peach Festival in its 47th year celebrates 'the tastier peach state,' see photos

As an ode to what many locals call "the tastier peach state," The City of Gaffney celebrated South Carolina peaches for the 47th year with the annual Peach Fest.

The festival began on July 11 and wrapped up on July 20 with a parade down Limestone Street, a pageant at Limestone University, carnival rides, vendors, and wrestling at Henry L. Jolly Park.

There were only two booths selling peaches at the Peach Festival: Abbott Farms and Jolley Farms.

"We have not been here selling at the Peach Fest before, even though my dad has been in business for 45-plus years. Our farm is right down on Highway 11, so I grew up a farmer's daughter. My family has moved back to the Gaffney area, so we decided to come out and show what my dad has to offer," said Heather Grow, who sells Jolley Farm peaches.

"It has been very good. I'm actually surprised, one of the board members told me one of their biggest complaints is there's not enough peaches being sold at the peach festival, so we have done very well," Grow said.

Around the corner at Oshields Concessions, Sue Robinson, who has helped her daughter and son-in-law run their booth for 14 years, fried peaches they picked up from Jolley Farm.

"People say it tastes like a peach cobbler," Robinson said as she dropped battered peaches into the deep fryer.
