Gainesville 'hot cops' have some serious competition
Earlier this week, a photo of police officers in Gainesville, Fla., heading out to help the victims of Hurricane Irma set the internet on fire, with commenters declaring the officers “hot” and some noting that they were single and looking (wink, wink). Now another group of police officers is stealing some of the spotlight — not only with their good looks but with their call to action on behalf of those who took a financial beating in the hurricane.
On Wednesday night, Tennessee’s Knoxville Police Department shared a photo of four police officers and a police dog. The caption, showing a spirit of generosity in many ways, urged commenters to donate “in the name of either the Gainesville PD or Knoxville PD to your favorite charity to help Hurricane Irma victims.” In a matter of a few hours, the post went viral, receiving over 24,000 shares and 17,000 comments.
“We knew we wanted to take Gainesville’s idea a step forward,” Knoxville police department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk tells Yahoo Beauty. “We wanted to use our platform to help those in need.”
DeBusk says the support has been overwhelming, with the department receiving screen shots of donations made on behalf of both police departments.
“That’s just incredible. We are grateful we can help the victims in Florida,” he says. “Our Facebook page has gotten over 4 million views just in a few hours since we posted the photo.”
And while much of the reason for that is philanthropic, it’s hard to ignore the other burning question that’s motivating folks: Are the officers single? DeBusk tells Yahoo Beauty that just the two officers in the middle of the photo, Sgt. Samuel Henard and Garrett Fontanez, are on the market, while officers Brayden Hansen and Christopher Medina, pictured at far left and right, are married.
DeBusk says that it’s not only the four officers getting praised, but also Nash, their K9, “has been the icing on the cake,” in the comment section.
He adds, “We are proud the community has stepped up and helped, we are very thankful for the support,” says DeBusk, “We appreciate everyone who got involved in the cause.”
DeBusk notes the entire community is looking forward to Saturday’s college football game — University of Tennessee vs. their rival the University of Florida — so they can “take it to those Gators once again.”
