Much has been made about the beverages that made their way into the final season of Game of Thrones. First there was coffee cup-gate, then water bottle-aggedon. But tonight during the two-hour documentary—called The Last Watch—about the production of the final season a behind the scenes food that deserved its place in the spotlight was finally revealed. During the documentary, cameras visit Leigh McCrum's coffee truck—we're placing our bets on her being the one who sold the aforementioned rogue coffee cup—and she walks us through the creation of her signature menu item: what she calls a "fully loaded toastie." She says she made one for herself one day and one person saw it and asked her to make him one. And then another person asked for one. and then another. Before she knew it, word quickly spread around the set and it became one of the cast and crew's favorite items.

The toastie is basically a panini-like sandwich with cheese, bacon, chicken, ham, tomato, onion and tobacco onions (crispy thin onion rings) on tiger bread. It looks incredible. McCrum mentions that she used to try to stock the cart with healthy stuff, but the cast and crew really just needed snacks that could keep them going (and comforted) through the 14 weeks of night shoots. There's also a great moment where Leigh talks about how the cart ran out of ice pops (which the brits call lollies!).

The documentary also gives other great insight into the food the cast and crew enjoyed while filming. We see many, many water bottles at the cast's first table read. We see Bran eating a sandwich right before being threatened by the Night King. We see wights enjoying some curry between shots. Perhaps my second favorite food moment after the toastie comes when one of the Irish extras learned that Club sandwich is an acronym for Chicken, Lettuce Under Bacon. I, like the extra, was shocked. I never thought Game of Thrones could teach me something new about food.
