Garmin teases new luxury watch – but what could it be?

Garmin has posted a short video on social media teasing the release of a new watch later today (October 24). The company teased that the device will be revealed 'bright and early', and its products are usually announced at 7am EST, so we should only have a few hours to wait.

The video (which you can see below) shows a Garmin watch with a metal link bracelet. Garmin's Mexican support website recently posted details of four upcoming Descent Mk3 watches, but I would be surprised if that's what we're looking at here; the Descent series are dive computers, so an articulated metal bracelet wouldn't make sense (it would be too heavy and prone to corrosion from seawater).

It's possible that the Descent Mk3 may have a metal bracelet for day wear with an interchangeable silicone one for dives, but it would be strange that the ocean-friendly option wouldn't be the default.

Turn on your speakers, and the mystery is immediately solved. This is a new iteration of the Garmin Marq Aviator, likely made using the same 130-layer carbon fiber manufacturing process as the special edition Marq Athlete, Commander, and Golfer watches released on October 12.

It's interesting that the Marq Aviator is getting its own launch event, but considering the price of the standard model, the carbon version might be Garmin's most expensive watch to date, which would explain it. Thankfully it looks like we won't have to wait much longer to find out more.

Update: It's now well after 7am EST, so it seems likely that the new watch will instead be launched on October 25 instead. I'll continue to keep you updated as soon as there's more news.
