Gavin Rossdale Offers Rare, Bold Comment on Gwen Stefani Divorce

Gavin Rossdale reflected on his former relationship with ex-wife Gwen Stefani in a rare and vulnerable new interview.

While speaking to hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes on the latest episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast, Rossdale got candid about his divorce from the No Doubt songstress, which he said has caused a sense of "shame" in his life.

According to the Bush frontman, Rossdale "never thought" he would get divorced when he married Stefani in 2002, especially after welcoming their three children: Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10.

But the couple ultimately ended up parting ways after nearly 13 years of marriage while announcing their split in 2015, finalizing their divorce the following year.

"I feel bad for my kids, that's it," Rossdale, 58, told Robach and Holmes, noting how "debilitating" it can be for kids. It's a feeling the musician said he knows all too well after he also grew up with divorced parents.

"I wish I could have found a way to not have that in their lives," he continued. "It wasn't fun for me to come from a broken home… It can be quite debilitating for kids… the overriding things is you don't want to let your kids down."

Going on to talk about Stefani, 54, Rossdale said, "The biggest thing would be when you see the kids that sometimes there's a loss. It'd be nice if there was more of a connection with the person who made them with me."

Stefani has since remarried, tying the knot with Blake Shelton in July 2021, whom she met on the set of The Voice while the country singer was also going through a divorce from ex-wife Miranda Lambert.

"I go to a lot of events where there's 'the other team,' so to speak," Rossdale said in an apparent reference to Stefani's new life with Shelton. Nevertheless, the rocker said he "feels really proud" of himself for having "consistency as a father."

"I know in my heart that I'm super consistent," he added.

As for his feelings toward the "Just a Girl" singer, Rossdale said their split was a "very contentious, hugely emotional, flared-up situation," but that he still would never want to speak ill about his kids' mom.

"That's just not right," the British musician added.

Instead, he seems to be at peace with where he is now, as he told Robach and Holmes, "I don't live in regret," adding, "Life just unfolds how it should."
