'General Hospital' Star Sonya Eddy Dead at 55

Octavia Spencer announced the news on her Instagram.

Actress Sonya Eddy passed away on Monday, Dec. 19. She was 55.

Octavia Spencer, 52, announced the death of her good friend on Tuesday, Dec. 20 via an Instagram post. 

"My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel," she wrote, alongside a photo of the General Hospital actress. "Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her 💔🕊️ My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!"

Many friends and fans took to the comments to share their condolences. 

E! News reporter Nina Parker wrote, "I am so sad to hear this. Sending you love 🙏🏾♥️🙏🏾"

Actress Tika Sumpter commented, "Wow..one of the best. So sorry. ❤️"

Actress Jaimie Alexander, best known for her role as Lady Sif in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Thor, also chimed in, writing, "Sending love to you ♥️" 

"Noooooo, Ephinay!!! 💔," one fan wrote, referring to her character on the soap opera.

"Huge General Hospital fan. This is so sad!!!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭," another fan commented.

Eddy was best known for her role as nurse Epiphany Johnson on General Hospital. She made her debut on the soap in 2006 and her last episode aired in November 2020.

Eddy's career consisted of roles between both film and television, where she appeared in shows like ER, Glee, Seinfeld, and The Drew Carey Show. For Film, Eddy starred in Coach Carter, Bad News Bears, Barbershop, and Daddy Daycare, to name a few.

A cause of death has yet to be revealed.
