‘General Hospital’s Tyler Christopher Dead at 50

Soap actor Tyler Christopher, perhaps best known for his roles on General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, has reportedly passed away.
Christopher died following a "cardiac event" at his home in San Diego on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 31, his General Hospital costar Maurice Benard announced on Instagram later that evening.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher," he began alongside a photo of his longtime colleague sitting on a couch, wearing a black suit with a dog looking back in the background.
"Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting," he wrote, going on to call him "a sweet soul and wonderful friend," as well.
Christopher, who struggled with alcohol addiction, was also an advocate for mental health and substance use treatments, according to Benard.
"We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father," he concluded.
General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini addressed Christopher's death in a statement to People, telling the publication, “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor, and dear friend, who was beloved by our GH family and fans of Nikolas Cassadine." Speaking for everyone currently working on the series, he sent "heartfelt sympathies" to his former colleague's loved ones.
According to IMDb profile, Christopher was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award five times for his role on General Hospital and once for his work on Days of Our Lives. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016, for GH.
In 1997, he won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Male Newcomer on the series. According to the database, he appeared in 1,153 episodes of the long-running show, departing in 2016.
He is survived by his son Greyson James, 14, and daughter Boheme, 8.
