Need a getaway? Here’s the Wilmington Airport’s summer flight schedule
Summer is almost here, and if you’re planning on a weekend getaway out of Wilmington’s Airport, a new flight schedule has debuted to get you where you need to go.
After permanently and seasonally suspending certain flight routes, Avelo Airlines, Wilmington Airport’s sole commercial airline, has confirmed the return of select flight destinations, as well as some route changes to familiar routes which will last until Nov. 5.
Here are all the destinations that can be traveled to from the Wilmington Airport this summer.
Avelo's route changes from ILG
Avelo coming to the Wilmington Airport meant the return of commercial flights out of Delaware, and saw major success in the Delaware-area market. In its first two years of operation, Avelo and ILG served 200,000 customers, breaking a record previously set nearly a decade ago.
Flight routes started with a handful of Florida destinations and eventually expanded to 16 total routes by last November.
Last November, the airline announced that 10 flights would be “seasonally suspended” so aircraft could undergo maintenance and to compensate for low demand during the “off-season”.
Around the same time, it was announced that flights to Savannah, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Greenville, South Carolina; and Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina would be permanently removed from the airport’s routes.
Since then, flights to two previously seasonally suspended routes, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Wilmington, North Carolina, returned on Friday, May 3, with some frequency changes extending until the fall.
What are the new flight schedules?
This summer the Wilmington Airport will offer flights to seven destinations. Bookings can be made online.
Flights to Sarasota and West Palm Beach, Florida, originally scrapped from ILG’s lineup, are expected to return in mid-November.
Avelo Airlines allows customers to change or cancel flights up to 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Canceled reservations rack up a charge of $20 per seat. All canceled reservations are eligible for Avelo Travel Funds that can be used on future flights with Avelo.
If a trip is canceled within 24 hours of purchase and at least seven days before the scheduled departure, the trip will be completely refunded to the form of payment originally used. These transactions can be made online.
According to Courtney Goff, communications manager for Avelo Airlines, any routes not mentioned in this list are currently suspended and will be evaluated for a potential return in 2025 or at the end of this year.
