Tom Brady wouldn't fit in with UGG's latest squad
In the fashion world, seasons are always one step ahead. When snow is still fresh on the ground, designers are already thinking about bikinis. So, as it goes, while the summer sun is still strong, brands are already releasing their fall 2017 ad campaigns, teasing shoppers with what will soon grace stores and tempt wallets.
The latest campaign is a bit of a head scratcher. Ugg teamed up with Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan, Kim Gordon of rock brand Sonic Youth, and seven other talents spanning the fields of fashion, business, music, and art for their fall fashion campaign. Interestingly, the traditionally winter-centric brand decided to shoot their ads in the heart of sunny California, and features MacLachlan, Gordon, and others clad in their new ’70s retro-style fall apparel.
However, familiar faces continue to front the ads. Gigi Hadid stars in four campaigns — and counting — whereas BFF Kendall Jenner and sister Bella Hadid trail behind with just one campaign each (Fendi and Giuseppe Zanotti, respectively).
Although It-girls of the moment aren’t the only stars booking big jobs. Kate Moss continues to showcase her modeling prowess after 30 years in the business, starring alongside Oscar nominated actress Naomie Harris in the newest Miu Miu campaign.
Big-time industry names aren’t needed to make a major impact though as Calvin Klein proves with the meta universe created by Raf Simons showing models posing in front of the brand’s past billboards.
Gucci took a similar approach shirking the Hadids and Jenners of the world, but went in a more avant-garde direction. Creative director Alessandro Michele situates the campaign in an alien world inspired by the 1950s and 1960s sci-fi genre and Star Trek. Models dressed in head-to-toe Gucci are juxtaposed against a backdrop filled with UFOs, dinosaurs, and phaser beams.
