Gisele Bündchen Is Officially Retiring From the Runway
Following 20 years of catwalking all around the world, Gisele Bündchen is retiring. Sort of. As the highest paid model in the world for eight years running, the 34-year-old will no longer participate in Fashion Weeks and runway shows —but that doesn’t mean she’s quitting her lucrative career completely.
"Gisele will focus on special projects and also spending more time on her number one priority: her family,"Patricia Bündchen, GIsele’s sister and representative said in a statement on Wednesday.
News of Gisele’s retirement emerged last Friday when a Brazil-based newspaper reported that she would take her final bow at São Paulo Fashion Week in mid April. Considering the supermodel started her journey to the top in Brazil, it would be a fitting place for her to say adeus. She’s also found astounding amounts of success from fashion lines to commercial ventures in the South American country.
But just because she’ll no longer be closing out Alexander McQueen or making surprise appearances at Chanel doesn’t mean she’s going anywhere. Gisele, who is married to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and has two kids, Benjamin and Vivian, has been triumphant in her profession not because of her strut — which is legendary — but spokesperson positions, campaigns, and fashion partnerships. These are why everyone knows her name, not the niche fashion shows that only editors, buyers, and real die hards watch.
Look at it this way: This is not a goodbye but a see you soon.
