New Gladiator Film From Ridley Scott Set To Resume Filming
Ridley Scott is having a busy year with his latest film starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon Bonaparte hitting theaters and production on Gladiator 2 (which features an epic baboon fight) being underway.
Gladiator 2 is set to debut in 2024 following Lucius, the son of Maximus' love Lucilla, after Maximus' death. Shooting was postponed when SAG-AFTRA went on strike in July, but now the strike is over, sets are starting up again, and Ridley Scott is prepping to get back to work.
Variety revealed that Gladiator 2 will resume shooting next week, December 4, in Malta.
The film is a sequel to Scott's five-time Oscar-winning 2000 film Gladiator, which starred Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Richard Harris, Derek Jacobi and Djimon Hounsou.
Derek Jacobi and Connie Nielsen will be returning for Gladiator 2, with Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal joining.
Gladiator 2 is set for release on November 22, 2024.
