'GMA's Robin Roberts Unveils Surprising Personal Plans for the Year Ahead
Wedding bells are ringing for Roberts and her partner.
Robin Roberts shared some exciting personal news on Monday’s episode of Good Morning America.
The news anchor opened up about her plans for 2023, which includes walking down the aisle and tying the knot with longtime girlfriend, Amber Laign.
The couple have been dating for nearly 18 years. They first got together in July 2005, though Roberts did not come out publicly until December 2013.
While speaking with author and motivational speaker Gabrielle Bernstein during the episode, the 62-year-old journalist was transparent about her wedding plans for the upcoming year.
“I’m saying yes to marriage. We’re getting married this year,” she said, per Page Six, noting that she hesitated to share the news because she hadn’t “said it out loud yet.”
Roberts admitted that she and Laign previously talked about marriage but “put it off” once Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. Laign completed radiation therapy in June of last year with support from Roberts who is a breast cancer survivor herself. Roberts took a lengthy leave from GMA before returning in July.
In April 2022, Roberts opened up about Laign’s breast cancer journey, stating, “I went through it twice, barely shed a tear. I’m a puddle every time I think about what Amber is going through. She is being so courageous and is handling it extremely well.”
During the first episode of the new year, Bernstein encouraged Roberts to “create a wedding vision board,” which prompted the anchor to fan herself with note cards.
”I can’t believe I said that,” she joked about telling the public her plans for what she calls her “next chapter” with Laign.
While celebrating their 15th anniversary together in 2020, Laign shared a collage of photos along with a sweet tribute revealing that they met on a blind date.
In a recent Instagram post, Roberts lit up when she referred to Laign as her “fiancé,” adding in the clip that she has to get “used to saying that.”
“Your face when you said fiancé is EVERYTHING ❤️” one fan commented.
