Godzilla Minus One Stomps in With Official Trailer
The official synopsis for Godzilla Minus One is brief: “In post-war Japan, a new terror rises; Godzilla. Will the devastated people be able to survive... let alone fight back?”
That’s about as long as the synopsis needs to be for a film in which a big monster goes on a rampage.
Written and directed by the award-winning Takashi Yamazaki (The Eternal Zero, Stand by Me Doraemon), Godzilla Minus One marks the first live-action Godzilla film since 2016’s well-received Shin Godzilla.
This is a prequel of sorts, taking place following WW2 when Japan is at its weakest. The ‘Minus One’ of the title refers to the country’s devastated landscape. They’re zero at the war’s conclusion, then plunged into a negative state with Godzilla’s attack.
It looks to be a stark, serious take on the iconic kaiju. But that’s not his sole forthcoming appearance. Warner Bros.’ Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is due out next year. Godzilla Minus One, meanwhile, hits theatres 1 December.
