Golden Apple: Rebecca Dover

Golden Apple: Rebecca Dover

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF)

Rebecca Dover knew that she wanted to pursue a career in Special Education when she was a child. The desire to pursue this path came early.

“I was fortunate to grow up where my neighbor had multiple special needs, and just dealing with him,” Dover says. “His parents taught me a lot of patience. And it showed me that I really wanted to help people. Even as a tutor when I was in high school, I’ve always just had a passion with wanting to help people.”

We caught up with Mrs. Dover in an 8th grade Science class. Typically she’s working with self-contained students in Science and Social Studies.

“Our goal is to always show at least 80-percent mastery. And if we’re not there, then we’re able to go back and re-pace and everything that we need for the students.”

Mrs. Dover has been doing this for 20 years. 2-decades of creating such strong bonds.

“I do have, typically, my students for three years in a row and I’ve had the ability to build relationships with not only my kids, but with their families. And just help them with community and everything they need to be successful.”

Every day is another chance for Rebecca Dover to make a difference. A chance to remind her self that she is right where she’s supposed to be.

“I think it makes me matter,” she says. “I think that’s my main goal. I just want to make sure that I’m being part of the community and I matter to my point in life.”
