The nominations for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards were revealed Monday by actors Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmer Valderrama. Leading the pack for nominations this year was Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar box-office hit “Barbie,” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken with nine nominations.

“Barbie” spawned multiple fashion and product collaborations in partnership with the film, including collaborations with Moon, Primark and Superga. The film also brought about the Barbiecore trend, categorized by all things pink, bright colors and sparkling.

Gerwig’s “Barbie” is nominated for Best Picture, Musical or Comedy. Another fashion-related film, “Air,” is nominated in the same category. “Air” chronicles the origin of Air Jordan sneakers and how Nike executives sought to strike a deal with legendary NBA player Michael Jordan.

This year the Golden Globes also added a new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award for films that have grossed more than $150 million, of which $100 million must come from U.S. domestic box-office sales. They have have also introduced the Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy or Television award, recognizing stand-up comics.

Although the Golden Globes doesn’t have a formal costume award, they didn’t let fashion-centric films go ignored. The 2024 Golden Globe Awards is scheduled for Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. ET and being produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by WWD parent Penske Media Corp.
