Your competition is fierce when you're all fighting for the exact same thing: a room in a hotel with one room to rent. You read right. ONE ROOM. This is why I wish you good luck in getting a reservation at this new Corktown (Detroit) hotel.

The brainchild of Detroit-born Doug Schwartz, The1RoomHotel was quietly completed in Corktown—Detroit's oldest neighborhood, named for Irish settlers—on the second floor of an historic building. The exact location is intentionally undisclosed for privacy and guest-stays are by referral only. The1RoomHotel is the largest, bespoke penthouse experience in Detroit Proper (3000 sq ft indoor/outdoor space) with thoughtful amenities curated in detail down to rare international treats.

As the first of its kind in Michigan, The1RoomHotel is located in an historic building built circa 1901. While maintaining the original architecture, Schwartz elevated the elements into a cozy retreat, preserving its authenticity with every door, ceiling medallion, chair rail molding and early 1900’s tongue and groove longleaf heart pine flooring.

The1RoomHotel was designed for corporate stay and visitors from another state or overseas who want high level accommodations. Speaking of, Schwartz forged a working relationship with wine jedi Dave Phinney (Orin Swift, The Prisoner Wine Company, Locations, Gestalt Wine Company) that turned into a way to give bespoke wine experiences to guests of the hotel.

"My relationship with Orin Swift started with the founder Dave Phinney, when he came to Detroit and did an event at my eastern market location for my brand DetroitWick. We started working together and over the past 5+ years I have been making these limited edition lucite sculptures for OS featured in the wine room and to their VIPS," says Schwartz. "When I was working on the T1RH project (started Jan 2023) I reached out and we discussed featuring OS as a collaborative for our culinary program/events etc. So, we are still working out the details and look forward to launching something special for guests starting spring."

Schwartz also highly recommends a stop by Vertical Detroit, a local wine bar close to the hotel with a very robust wine selection.
