5. Ginger Zee
Ginger Zee was a science and weather geek from a young age. Her inspiration? "I saw a waterspout on Lake Michigan when I was eight... I was mesmerized,” she said. “I really thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.”
Growing up, Zee pictured herself more as Helen Hunt’s character in Twister than as a weatherperson. However, one of her high-school teachers and some college internships pushed her in the direction of meteorology, and she hasn’t looked back since. She began her career in newsrooms in Grand Rapids and Flint, Michigan, before working for WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago from 2006 to 2011.
These days, Zee is the Emmy Award-winning chief meteorologist for Good Morning America and ABC News. She also hosts the ABC News digital series Food Forecast.
In her time with the network, Zee has covered dozens of historic weather events, including Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Matthew and many record-breaking blizzards, floods and wildfires. Aside from weather reporting, she takes GMA viewers with her on adrenaline-filled trips into caves, volcanoes and shark-filled waters.
Parents may catch her on the Disney Junior show Miles from Tomorrowland, as she voices the storm-chasing alien Dr. Zephyr Skye.
Ginger Zee has a net worth of about $2.5 million in 2023. Celebrity Net Worth estimates her yearly salary at $500,000. While this makes her the least rich of the GMA bunch, she’s also the youngest, and has received acclaim for her work as a meteorologist and in other endeavors, such as placing third in Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars.

4. Lara Spencer
Before coming to ABC, Lara Spencer anchored for both NBC and CBS in the 1990s. In ‘96, she covered the TWA Flight 800 crash on New York City's WABC-TV—the third-deadliest aviation accident in U.S. history, and one that would springboard her career. Just three years later, she received a call that changed her life.
"I got a voicemail on my work phone at WABC Eyewitness News asking if I would be interested in being a correspondent for GMA; it was Diane [Sawyer],” Spencer shared in a recent Instagram post. "It was a long time ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.”
Today, Spencer is a co-anchor on Good Morning America, a position she’s held since 2011, and has been with ABC since 1999.
She also has a passion for home design: She’s the creator of the HGTV show Flea Market Flip and the creator/host of Everything But the House, and she’s written two bestselling books, I Brake for Yard Sales and Flea Market Fabulous.
In 2023, Lara Spencer has an estimated net worth of $20 million and makes about $3 million per year, as reported by Celebrity Net Worth. While this puts her south of some of her GMA colleagues, personal wealth-wise, it should be noted that she’s married to financial executive and entrepreneur Richard McVey, who’s worth somewhere in the $600-$700 million range.
3. George Stephanopoulos
George Stephanopoulos, now a household name, didn’t always have his heart set on journalism. He worked for his college radio station as a sportscaster and even helped CBS do some documentaries. But the first part of his career was in politics.
“I worked for the Michael Dukakis campaign in 1987 and ‘88. I went back to work for Dick Gephardt in Congress. And then, of course, I worked for Bill Clinton,” he said in an interview with USC Annenberg. “I didn’t get back into journalism until I left the administration after the first term in 1997, when I joined ABC News as a political analyst and contributor.”
Now, Stephanopoulos is a co-anchor on Good Morning America and hosts This Week, also on ABC. He’s a prolific interviewer, having talked with figures such as President Joe Biden, President Donald Trump and President Barack Obama, as well as international politicians such as Russian President Vladimir Putin. With an expertise in politics, Stephanopoulos has led ABC’s coverage of four presidential elections.
In the Annenberg interview, he explained the challenges of anchoring for GMA: “[For starters], it’s two hours of live television every day versus once a week, [and] it’s not just politics. It was all kinds of different stories. You’ve got human interest, consumer, entertainment and the challenge [to me] was learning how to be myself and be authoritative as I dealt with a wider range of subject matters.”
George Stephanopoulos has an estimated 2023 net worth of $40 million. His TV salary, per Celebrity Net Worth, is $15 million.
2. Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts’ roots in journalism lie in sports. In college at Southeastern Louisiana University, she was a standout basketball player and graduated as one of the school’s all-time leading scorers and rebounders. This led to her first journalism gig in 1983, as a weekend sports anchor in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on WDAM.
Roberts continued to work as a small-time sports anchor through the ‘80s before landing her dream job at ESPN in 1990. She hosted SportsCenter and NFL Primetime until 2005.
Roberts was named co-anchor on Good Morning America in 2005, but she’s been contributing to the program since 1995. She’s won countless awards for her work, including the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism, and is known for her advocacy and transparency—particularly in her battles with both breast cancer and MDS.
In 2023, Roberts announced her plans to start her own production unit with ABC, covering everything from pop culture to true crime. "My wonderful team and I are looking forward to sharing new and compelling stories with you in a wide range of formats,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
Robin Roberts has an estimated net worth of $55 million in 2023, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The same outlet pegs her annual salary at a hefty $18 million.

1. Michael Strahan
Michael Strahan, before becoming a TV personality, still managed to get on TV—as the star defensive lineman of the NFL’s New York Giants. He was selected 40th by the Giants in the 1993 NFL Draft and put up stellar stats in his 14 years in the league. He even managed to help lead his team to a Super Bowl victory in his final year.
After retiring from playing football, Strahan started talking about the sport. He was hired as a football analyst for Fox Sports and quickly worked his way to other branches of television. In 2009, he starred in a short-lived Fox sitcom and in 2012 he replaced Regis Philbin on Live! With Kelly and Michael.
About four years later, Strahan joined Good Morning America as a co-anchor, where he’s reported on major news events, sports-related and otherwise, and conducted interviews with President Barack Obama, Tom Brady, Ariana Grande and more.
He also hosts the ABC game show The $100,000 Pyramid, owns his own production company and has released a bestselling book and fashion line.
Michael Strahan has a net worth of around $65 million. His yearly income, according to Celebrity Net Worth, sits just behind Roberts’ at $17 million. And while $17 million is nothing to sniff at, it’s not the most he’s earned. In the 2002-2003 NFL season alone, the New York Giants paid Strahan more than $20 million.
