They're Out! Inside Former 'GMA' Anchors Amy Robach and TJ Holmes' Relationship
Were they or weren't they? And are Amy and T.J. still on 'GMA?' Here's what we know for sure so far.
Good Morning America co-anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes became the news—and then weren't able to report it for ABC anymore.
In late November 2022, the GMA 3 hosts were photographed getting cozy in a report from The Daily Mail, sending tongues wagging around the world. Now, the pair have been taken off air temporarily, raising a lot of questions about their present status and future on GMA.
An insider told PEOPLE of the pair, "They joked how good their chemistry was, but they shut it down and made it clear they were each going through their own stuff and there was nothing between them. She and T.J. just did things together all the time. Her daughter babysat for his daughter. They were open about it. Their lives were intertwined because of work and they were best friends, so when their marriages ended, he was there for her and it was a very natural transition."

Still, another insider noted, "There were rumors they were having an affair about a year ago. A lot of people believed there might have been some truth to it, because you can see there's a mutual affection there. But everyone ultimately chalked it up to friendship because they always said they were both happily married."

Are Amy and T.J. still on GMA?
In a word: No.
Robach and Holmes were reportedly ousted from GMA following contentious mediation between their and ABC's attorneys as of Jan. 27, 2023. Sources told TMZ that it was a "witch hunt" and that Robach in particular was targeted unfairly for allegedly having alcohol in her dressing room (which sources said was actually a gift from ABC execs). Insiders also alleged that Holmes and Robach's relationship made some staffers uncomfortable. However, sources did note that Robach and Holmes would be paid out for the remainder of their contracts.
A source told PEOPLE that ABC News president Kim Godwin addressed their absence during a daily editorial call on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, explaining, "This wasn't a special call and it happens every day and she took that time to address the situation to the staff. She said even though this isn't a violation of policy, she took time to think about it and wanted to work through what was best and for now, they've decided to take T.J. and Amy off the air while they figure things out. Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos will host GMA3 today, but it's likely to vary over the week."

An email from ABC News president Kim Godwin to staff read in part, "I want to take a moment to address the ongoing matter involving GMA3 anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach. I understand that the continuing coverage can be distracting from the incredibly important work our team does here at ABC News."
"Amy and T.J. will remain off-air pending the completion of an internal review, and there will be a rotation of anchors at GMA3 for the time being," Godwin's memo continued.
