'The Good Place' star Jameela Jamil says she hopes celebrities who advertise detox teas 's*** their pants'
Jameela Jamil has often spoken out about body shaming in her social media posts, but now she’s calling out fellow celebrities who are endorsing detox teas.
Detox teas have been around since humans realized that senna, a natural medicine, causes bowel movements. These “miracle” detox teas are mainly hyped as laxatives, and they are not a safe way to lose weight or to keep it off long-term.
And The Good Place actor is not here for diarrhea-causing teas, especially when it preys upon people’s self-esteem.
“I hope all these celebrities all s*** their pants in public, the way the poor women who buy this nonsense upon their recommendation do,” Jamil tweeted. “Not that they actually take this s***. They just flog it because they need MORE MONEY.”
They got Cardi B on the laxative nonsense “detox” tea. GOD I hope all these celebrities all shit their pants in public, the way the poor women who buy this nonsense upon their recommendation do. Specifically, Jamil mentioned rapper Cardi B, who recently gave birth to her daughter, Kulture. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Cardi posted a sponsored Instagram pushing a brand of detox tea and claimed it helped her lose weight after childbirth.

Jamil promoted a healthier way to lose weight, telling followers they “need fiber!”
If you want to “curb your appetite” eat some damn green vegetables or have some nutritious natural vegetable soup. Don’t drink these “detox” teas. You need fiber! Not something that honestly just makes you have diarrhea the day you take it and constipates you in the long run…

The actress went on to write, “Generally just don’t ever take diet advice from women who know nothing about nutrition/basic advertising ethics. IF you want to get healthier, talk to a trainer/doctor.”
But Cardi B is not the first celebrity to enter Jamil’s body-positive radar. In May, Jamil shared a photoset of Kim Kardashian promoting appetite suppressant lollipops.
At the time, Jamil wrote, “You terrible and toxic influence on young girls. I admire their mother’s branding capabilities, she is an exploitative but innovative genius, however this family makes me feel actual despair over what women are reduced to.”
On the same day Cardi B shared her detox tea promotion, Khloe Kardashian shared her own on Instagram.
No. Fuck off. No. You terrible and toxic influence on young girls. I admire their mother’s branding capabilities, she is an exploitative but innovative genius, however this family makes me feel actual despair over what women are reduced to. ?? pic.twitter.com/zDPN1T8sBM
