The Duchess of Cambridge’s 2016 Wardrobe Cost $214,400
The Duchess of Cambridge has long been a supporter of mainstream brands such as Zara and Whistels, and is renowned for recycling her outfits over and over again. So it may come as a surprise to hear that Kate Middleton appears to have had an image overhaul this year, favoring mega-expensive designer threads over her usual cheaper finds.
The Daily Mail calculated the cost of the royal’s 2016 wardrobe and found that it came to $214,400, four times as much as she spent last year, which totaled around $53,000.
Middleon’s Canada tour wardrobe alone cost a whopping $76,400. Considering it consisted of dresses by the likes of Jenny Packham, Alexander McQueen, and Dolce & Gabbana, along with a whole host of designer shoes, that figure seems a little less shocking.
On Monday, she demonstrated her newfound love for high-end, forgoing shopping from her closet for new piece by Vanessa Seward, which retails for about $900.

Prince Charles actually foots the bill for the Middleton’s clothing, according to reports. Staff, travel, and wardrobe for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (as well as their children) and Prince Harry is also apparently covered by Charles, who gets his income from an estate granted to the heir to the throne to fund the royal family’s official and private lives. The latest report from Clarence House showed an annual income as of March 2015 of $31.1 million.
