Each year, about 2.5 million people flock to South Dakota to get a glimpse of Mount Rushmore, the absolutely massive sculpture carved directly into the side of a mountain between 1927 and 1941 by sculptor Gutzon Borglum. And while it is certainly a sight to behold, area hotels can become more than a little crowded during the height of summer, which happens to be peak tourist season in the region.

That's where glamping comes in.

Under Canvas offers a pop-up campsite to bring visitors closer to Mount Rushmore — with some seriously luxurious amenities.

Each campsite comes with a luxury canvas tent, plush bedding, lighting, and more. But, if you upgrade to a suite or deluxe tent option, you'll also get your own en suite bathroom with organic bath products and a wood stove to keep you toasty all night long.

Oh, and don't fret about food either. Breakfast offerings include bottomless coffee and hot menu items like steel-cut oats and frittatas. Dinner might feature a generous charcuterie board or roasted trout. S'mores around a communal fire are complimentary.

Also included in the room (er, tent) rate: complimentary activities like morning yoga and live music.

And if you're looking for some guidance on area things to do, Under Canvas has that covered. The group has curated its own list of their favorite activities in the area and will help you book tours and put together the ultimate summer vacation itinerary.

Just remember: These glamping sites are only available in the warm-weather months from the beginning of May through the end of September. Also, this Under Canvas location makes an amazing home base not only for checking out Mount Rushmore but also for exploring South Dakota's Black Hills and nearby Custer State Park.

So go ahead, book this throwback summer vacation with a modern twist. And don't forget your Kodak camera.
