Goshen, Concord take first at Penn
Sep. 22—MISHAWAKA — Elkhart County bands took top spots at ISSMA Marching Band competitions this weekend.
At the Penn Carnival of Bands, The Goshen Crimson marching band took first place in ISSMA Open Class A, against The Pride of Elkhart and Chesterton Trojan Guard.
"For us, we won Class A and from what I have been told were the highest-scoring band of the day from any class," Goshen Crimson Marching Band director Tom Cox said. "I would like to thank our awesome parents for all they do to help us! They feed the entire (band) and make props, load equipment, wash our uniforms and do a million other things to help our kids and the crowd at Penn was ridiculous! If there is an award for crowd noise and support Goshen would win that award hands down!"
The Concord Marching Minutemen took first place in ISSMA Open Class B.
"I was very happy for the band and it was by far their best performance of the season," said Concord Marching Minutemen director Steve Peterson. "I and the rest of the staff really appreciated the energy and attitude during the afternoon rehearsal and performance prep despite the very hot conditions. It was a good day for the Marching Minutemen."
They competed against Pride of Plymouth, New Palestine Marching Dragons, and the Northridge Raider Band, which won People's Choice.
Northridge's result were not posted by Sunday afternoon.
