I'm a big fan of bias lighting, which creates a dim glow behind your TV screen. This not only looks cool, it also improves image contrast and can even help reduce eyestrain. If you spend as much time in front of your TV as I do (what, like I'm not supposed to binge Mare of Eastown in a single sitting?!), I'm pretty sure your eyes could use the help.
There are many ways to add bias lighting, some of them quite inexpensive. In fact, I've seen peel-and-stick LED light strips priced as low as $20, sometimes even less.
But if you're going to do this, why not take it to the next level? Start here: For a limited time, and while supplies last, the Govee Immersion TV LED backlight kit with camera drops to $58 when you apply promo code GOVEE6199M at checkout. It's normally $80; this is the lowest price on record.
Why this particular kit? It's all about the camera, which attaches to the top of your TV (not the best look, I admit) and points at the screen. Whatever movie you're watching or videogame you're playing, the camera matches the onscreen colors and reproduces them on the LED light strip.
So instead of a single, static color all the way around, you get an ever-changing, multi-color effect. It's very subtle, though, so as not to be distracting.
Meanwhile, the Govee companion app lets you configure all kinds of scenes and settings — including syncing the lights to music if you're in a party mood. And the entire thing supports voice controls as well, meaning you can "ask Alexa" or "OK Google" it to turn on, change modes and so on.
I haven't used this particular kit (which, I should mention, is designed for TVs 55-65 inches in size), but I do have other Govee LED light kits and they all work well. Meanwhile, over 6,600 Amazon customers collectively rated this 4.6 stars out of 5, so chances are very good you'll like it.
Want something simpler/cheaper? Govee's basic TV LED kit is available for $20. It's quite similar, but minus the camera.
