An easy graduation hairstyle for your virtual at-home ceremony

Major life events like weddings and bar mitzvahs have been postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. But instead of not celebrating at all, many people are hosting special occasions right at home.

A virtual party may not be exactly what you pictured for commemorating your graduation, but it’s still an awesome way to recognize all the hard work you have done with friends and family.

If you are a student who is graduating this year, chances are you got the outfit down pat. But what about your hair? If you are wearing that fabulous graduation cap, which I am sure you have personalized, it is only right to have the perfect graduation hairstyle to go with it.

Yahoo Life tapped Anthony Cole, an international artist for Sebastian Professional whose worked has been featured in magazines such as Elle, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, to show us an easy graduation hairstyle for your virtual at-home ceremony.

Grab a couple of ponytail holders, hair pins, a comb and bottle of hairspray and follow Anthony in the video above. Then, read below for a step-by-step guide on creating this graduation hairstyle.

Easy Graduation Hairstyle: Double braid with deep side part

As Anthony says, “it’s really making two braids and fastening them into one.”

Step 1: Apply Sebastian Potion 9 with the Dark Oil throughout hair for control and to enhance texture. Brush throughout. Anthony says that mixing the two products creates a “leave-in conditioner that's wearable and helps smooth” strands.

Step 2: Make a deep side part diagonally down the back of the head. Secure each section with an elastic so that you have two low ponytails.

Step 3: Create two separate braids, one on each side of the part. Secure both braids with a ponytail holder or elastic. If you have any flyaways, Anthony recommends to add “a little bit more of your Potion 9 over the braid.”

Step 4: Gently pull apart each braid for fullness.

Step 5: Connect the two braids with bobby pins at the top and bottom. Anthony suggests using the hair pin like a needle to stitch the braids together.

Step 6: Grab the end of your double braid and tuck it behind the plait. Secure it with a bobby pin.

Step 7: Finish with Shaper Zero Gravity hairspray for added hold.
