New Orleans’ Greater St. Stephen hosts back to school giveaway
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Greater St. Stephen ministries is hosting a “back to school extravaganza” on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
According to information from Greater St. Stephen, the giveaway comes in response to great need from children and parents in the New Orleans community.

At the free event, done in collaboration with local partners, 300 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away. Additionally, the event offers vouchers for haircuts, flu shots, onsite voter registration, gift cards and two scholarships for aspiring cosmetologists, which are available to students 16 or older with at least 11 high school credits.
The East New Orleans Regional Library will also be on-site to give away books and help attendees to get library cards.
The giveaway is happening in Morton Hall of Greater St. Stephen at 5600 Read Blvd.
“Our goal is to support families and make a positive impact by providing essential resources, creating a memorable experience for students and instilling a sense of hope and readiness for the future,” said Bishop T. Delbert Robinson, senior pastor of Greater St. Stephen.
