Greta Thunberg, 18, trolls 'very happy old man' Trump as he leaves office: 'So nice to see!'

The 18-year-old Swedish environmental activist took to social media on Wednesday to post a photo of the president leaving Joint Base Andrew on Air Force One for the very last time. “He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,” she wrote. “So nice to see!”
Thunberg’s caption is a nod to an already established history of the activist and 45th president going back and forth on social media, as the teenager often uses Trump’s own words about her against him. This one, in particular, goes back to a tweet from Trump in September 2019 after the then-16-year-old spoke out about the lack of effort coming from world leaders to combat climate change at the United Nations.

“She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!” Trump wrote on his now-suspended Twitter account.
At the time, Thunberg had changed her Twitter bio to reflect Trump’s sentiment. However, the joke continued as Trump made other comments about the teen that she continued to flip onto the president.
“So ridiculous,” Trump tweeted in December 2019, after Thunberg was named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year.” “Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”
Again, she updated her social media profile to mimic Trump’s comment.

In November 2020, as Trump called to “Stop the count” after the presidential election, Thunberg brought the president’s dig back around.

As Trump made his final exit from the White House as president Wednesday, Thunberg seemed to use the moment as a final opportunity to have the last word of their ongoing Twitter tête-à-tête.
🔥 Well played.

”Well played,” Mary L. Trump, Donald’s niece who has publicly been critical of him, responded to Thunberg’s last go.
