'Grey's Anatomy' Fan-Favorite Character Will Return for Season 20
Jessica Capshaw, Sara Ramirez, Kevin McKidd
Grey's Anatomy fans have a lot to be excited about as the show returns with its 20th season. While the season is an impressive milestone, new episodes will also feature the return of a couple of beloved characters, including one who hasn't been on the show for quite a few years.
In season 20, Jessica Capshaw will reprise her role as Dr. Arizona Robbins, a pediatric surgeon who last appeared in Grey's Anatomy in 2018. At the time, the character moved to New York City to reunite with her ex, Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez, and their daughter Sofia. Now, six seasons later, Robbins will be back at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
The news was announced as part of ABC's Winter TCA Press Tour on Saturday, Feb. 10, but no further details about how Robbins will be brought back into the storyline have been shared, although it will be a guest role.
When Capshaw left the show in 2018, she wrote of the departure, "For the past 10 years, I have had the rare privilege of not only playing Arizona Robbins, but also being madly in love with playing her...I am sad to see her go, but I am consoled by the idea that she will continue to live on and on in all of our consciences and our imaginations."
Along with Capshaw, another fan-favorite character, Dr. Nico Kim, played by Alex Landi, will also return as a guest star. He was last seen in season 18. Both Robbins and Kim are landmark characters for representation on screen, and fans will be excited to have them back, even if it's only for a short time.
Grey's Anatomy season 20 will also introduce two new characters, with Natalie Morales playing Monica Beltran and Freddy Miyares playing Dorian. The new season premieres on ABC on March 14.
