A Group Of Armed And Hangry Customers Showed Up To Popeyes Demanding The Sold-Out Chicken Sandwiches
Popeyes update: Everyone's still acting like a complete lunatic over that sold-out chicken sandwich. Earlier this week, things took a dark turn when a group of hangry customers arrived wielding a legit gun and demanding sammies.
According to CNN, two men and two women showed up at the Houston-based location, and when they were informed that the sandwiches were no longer on menus, one pulled a gun. "When the manager told them they were out, one of the males became upset and pulled a pistol and demanded a chicken sandwich," Lt. Larry Crowson told the Houston Chronicle. "The manager again informed them they were out of sandwiches."
Employees fled to the back of the restaurant while the group—reportedly ranging in age from 17 to 20 years old—bolted for their SUV. The sandwich is good (great, even!), but worth a felony? I think not.
Oh, but the whole debacle didn't end there. They pulled through the drive-thru and tossed an empty can at the window. Less threatening than the weapon, but you know, still rude.
The Houston Police Department is currently investigating surveillance footage in hopes of uncovering the culprits. No charges have been filed thus far.
In case you somehow missed all the chaos, here's a quick synopsis: Popeyes debuted its first-ever chicken sandwich in early August, customers went nutso for the launch, and it promptly sold out in two weeks...everywhere. Meaning you can't get one whether you pull a gun or not. The chain has blamed "extraordinary demand" and is currently working to get it back on menus permanently.
