Guided hike coming to Sandia Foothills

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The city is inviting residents to hike and learn more about a popular Albuquerque open space this September.

The Parks and Recreation Department will be doing a “Foothills Wild Guided Hike” next week.

Not only will participants get their heart rates going and get a scenic view, but they’ll be able to dive into the history of the area and learn more about the ecosystem surrounding it.

The department will offer insights into the flora, archeology, and even the importance of water in the Sandia Mountains.

The city said the hike will be about two to three hours long, so bring water, snacks, and comfortable footwear. The guided hike is scheduled for September 15 starting at 8 a.m. at the Elena Gallegos Open Space.
