Gwen Stefani Proves You Don’t Need a Red Lip to be Glamorous [Video]
Last night on the Top 10 episode of The Voice, Gwen Stefani, a beloved judge on the show, wore minimal makeup and an ethereal Marchesa gown while performing her latest single, “Used to Love You.” The power ballad resulted in a standing ovation from her current boyfriend, Blake Shelton. People claimed that “the single was inspired by Stefani’s recent split from husband Gavin Rossdale after nearly 13 years of marriage and 20 years together.” On the show, the former face of L’Oreal and current Urban Decay collaborator usually wears her signature red lipsticks — like L'Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick in Ravishing Red ($10) or MAC Lipglass in Russian Red ($15). But on The Voicelast night, Stefani wore a glossy nude lip with a no makeup-makeup look, keeping the focus on the crescendos in her ballad.

In September 2012, she told Harper’s Bazaar that her obsession with red lipstick started in high school: “I remember sitting in my ghetto, beat-up Honda Prelude, and putting on that lipstick in the rear-view mirror and being like, ‘Uh-huh, I like that. That’s the s*** right there.’ I never stopped after that.” In the ‘90s, Stefani was a beauty icon for her pink highlights and bold lipsticks. These days, she’s still a headline-making pop icon with beauty brands clamoring to be associated with her. “I’m thankful for Gwen for tons of reasons, but mostly just because she makes us all look cool out there,” Shelton told Entertainment Tonight yesterday.
