Halle Berry Calls Out Drake for Using Her Image Without Permission
While Drake may claim it was "God's Plan" to use a throwback photo of Halle Berry as promo for his new song, the actress would beg to differ.
According to the Catwoman star, the image Drake is using for the cover of his new single called "Slime You Out" featuring SZA–a picture of Berry covered in green slime at Nickelodeon's 2012 Kids' Choice Awards–wasn't approved by the actress. In fact, she told him no.
It all came to a head after the Moonfall star shared the following statement on Instagram: "Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy...even if you're a woman!"
Though Berry didn't mention the artist by name, fans quickly figured out her motive for posting as Drake released the song and its accompanying artwork just two days prior.
When one fan suggested that "out of respect" Drake should have "just asked her" to use the image, the 57-year-old revealed that the rapper did, and she said no.
"He did have his people call my people and i said NO," she replied. "I didn’t like that image of slime all over my face in association with his song. And he chose to do it anyway!"
"You see…that is the disrespect," she said. "Not cool."
While a few pushed back against the actress' sentiment, claiming that since she doesn't own the picture, she shouldn't get a say in its use, many came to her defense, with one writing, "It’s the Principle people ?????♀? You get it.. you get it.. you don’t ..ohhh well… it’s the principle! ??."
Berry later echoed those remarks. "Exactly!!" she replied. "[It's] about principles and integrity. so happy many of you get that.
"I would be more upset about the meaning of the pic," another shared. "'Slime you' what does that mean exactly? Hmm..."
"Exactly!" the actress wrote back. "What does that mean?"
As of writing, the 36-year-old "One Dance" rapper has not responded to Berry's statements.
