Halloween costumes that scream ‘I’m from St. Louis’

ST. LOUIS – Halloween is right around the corner, which means costume preparation is underway.

We asked Facebook users what they think is the costume that screams “St. Louis,” and there were quite a few answers that most locals could identify pretty quickly. So if you’re searching for the perfect inspiration that will speak to St. Louisans, below is the list for you.

Toasted Ravioli

One of the most prominent answers was, of course, the toasted ravioli. The staple has been around the Gateway City since the 1940s, when the mistake was made of dropping ravioli into the fryer.

T-Rav STL’s website is dedicated to the delicious mistake, including a hat that would be perfect for Halloween.

Becky, Queen of Carpet

She was across the region’s television screens flying on a carpet above the Arch–who could forget that? Some locals have gotten creative with recreating this costume, even as far as including the Arch, as seen in this Reddit post.

Becky, Queen of Carpet, died in May 2023. She was 67.

What high school did you go to?

It’s the question St. Louisans can never escape.

At least with this costume, you won’t have to ask it out loud. Just wear a sign with your letterman jacket or write the question on a shirt, and you’re all set. It’s the perfect choice for those who wait until the last minute.

Des Peres Pickle Jar

It’s likely the most informal landmark around St. Louis: the pickle jar in Des Peres. It allegedly appeared in 2012 and has since remained a constant in commuters daily sights near Interstate 270 at the Manchester exit.

The jar is also decorated for different occasions, so why not make it a Halloween Des Peres pickle jar?

Expired temp tags

The topic has been relevant to the region for quite some time, and many comments from locals suggested this was the epitome of St. Louis.

This costume could also be a great last-minute plan for those who need something unique but easily recognizable.

The New Halls, Tesson, and Halls “Fairies”

It’s a classic that many have already done in the past, including FOX 2’s own Jasmine Huda. The group of roads with “Ferry” in the name make for a perfect group costume.

Grab some fairy wings, a T-shirt or sash with its name, and the costume is complete.

St. Louis Blues and the Stanley Cup

With the Blues officially in their regular season now, this costume serves as a good reminder that our hometown NHL team took home the trophy for the very first time five years ago.

Play “Gloria!”

And if you’re celebrating Halloween with a group and can’t decide what costume to settle on, why not be all of them?
