"Halloweentown" Actually Exists and Yes, You Can Go Visit
After watching Halloweentown, it's hard to not wish you were a witch living in a place where it's Halloween 365 days out of the year. You might be searching for your ride on the magical bus that Marnie, Dylan and Sophie snuck onto, but you probably won’t find it in your hometown – unless you actually live in St. Helens, Oregon. In honor of the iconic Disney film that premiered 21 years ago, the city of St. Helens has transformed into the fictional place of Halloweentown. For just one month, you can experience what it’s like to live in a mystical place like Halloweentown, where you don’t have to be scared of other worldly beings like witches, vampires and monsters. So book your flight and get ready to hitch a ride from Benny because Halloweentown is worth a spot on your list of must-see places.
The Disney Channel Halloween classic Halloweentown was filmed in the small town of St. Helens, Oregon, and they loved the setup so much, they recreate it every year for people to come visit. So, yes you can head to the plaza and take selfies with the huge pumpkin that's on display. The tradition has been going on since the film was released back in 1998.
The festival includes classic fall activities like corn mazes and pony rides, but there's also a Museum of Peculiarities and Oddities and a Spirit of Halloweentown gift shop to enjoy as well! The city has prepared a schedule for each day of October leading up to Halloween, so you can try your hand at the events like a couples' costume contest, a Halloween paint party and a concert of the "greatest villain songs."
Last year was the the 20th anniversary of the movie and St. Helens went all out to celebrate. Though Kimberly J. Brown and some of the other cast members from the movie were there last year, she unfortunately won't be returning to Halloweentown, aka St. Helens, this year" according to The Chronicle, the town's local newspaper. Still, St. Helens has a loaded schedule for this year's festivities, so there won't be a shortage of things to do.
And of course, you can't miss out on the Haunted House in town. Safe to say it's probably a pretty scary one considering it's in Halloweentown!
Because Halloweentown, er, St Helen, is the best, the town is set up with photo ops, tours, and costume contests every weekend of October, so you can really get in the Halloween spirit.
