How to Make a Hanging Prism Plant Holder

Katie Bandurski
2 min read

Three trends collide in this chic DIY project. Our hanging plant holder effortlessly blends a geometric design and metallic finish with pretty foliage.

To make one, you'll need brass piping, gold wire, rope, and a few other craft supplies. Thread the wire through cut sections of pipe, then twist to form a prism shape. After a few adjustments, your hanging craft will be ready for your favorite potted plant.

What You'll Need

  • 90 inches of gold brass piping

  • Tape measure

  • Permanent marker

  • Pipe cutter

  • Thin gold wire

  • Wire clippers

  • Cord

  • Hook

Step 1: Cut Pipes

Gather all materials on a sturdy work surface. Measure and mark brass piping into nine sections (six 9-inch pieces and three 12-inch pieces). Cut through marks with a pipe-cutting tool.

Step 2: Thread with Wire

Unfurl a length of wire, then thread it through three of the 9-inch sections of pipe. Shape the pipe pieces into a triangle, then cut excess wire as needed. Twist the wire ends together to secure.

Step 3: Create Triangle

Continue to thread wire through the remaining 9-inch pieces of pipe. Secure at the corners to form a three-dimensional triangle. If you run out of wire, simply twist in a new section of wiring. Twist the wiring together at the final point until secure. Trim as needed.

Editor's Tip: If you can't slide wiring through the pipe because it's already stuffed with wire, simply loop the wire around the joints, then snip away the excess.

Step 4: Attach Longer Pipes

Twist wire to the top of the triangle. Thread the 12-inch sections of pipe together on the wire. This will complete the prism shape with a longer, triangular top section.

Step 5: Finish and Hang

Make a wire loop at the top of the prism, then trim any excess wire. Thread cord through the wire loop and hang holder from a mounted hook. Place a potted plant in the center of the holder.
