Hannah Bronfman on Pre-Wedding Weight Loss: ‘It’s Ridiculous’
Hannah Bronfman, the founder of HBFIT, has some very concrete thoughts on matrimonial makeovers.
Specifically, as she wrote in a recent post that went viral on her health, fitness, and beauty site, the need to dump pounds before the big day. To sum it up: The very idea of it gets on her nerves.
“It’s ridiculous. We have so many things to worry about when planning a wedding, and losing weight should not be one of them,” she told Yahoo Style before taking part in the Shape half-marathon on Sunday. “It’s become the norm. It’s quite crazy. There aren’t any quick fixes.”
So for those who are gung-ho to lose weight, Bronfman, a DJ, tastemaker, all-around cool lady, and health and wellness expert, says to be realistic about your expectations.
“Everything takes consistency and dedication. You want to feel like yourself and the best version of yourself, and that means you have to start setting realistic goals. I feel my best when I’m feeling I’ve gotten a lot of sleep and that my brain is working. For me, I feel good when I eat well. Food has so much to do with your brain and how you feel,” says Bronfman, who is engaged to Canadian DJ Brendan Fallis.
She’s equally blunt about people who obsess over social media and looking flawless in photos — either their own or the presumed perfection of the people they follow. “It’s so unhealthy. It’s crazy. There’s a delete and an unfollow button for a reason. If you’re becoming too consumed with how people look, unfollow them,” she says.
Instead of fixating on how great others might look and comparing yourself with them, says Bronfman, turn inward.
“To be more confident, it starts with a mental thing. Give yourself positive affirmations. Stop finding your flaws. Appreciate what you have. You have two arms and legs, so get out there and move every day,” she says of exercise. “If you want it, you’ll do it. If you complain and you don’t get yourself out there, you only have yourself to blame.”
