Albuquerque

  • August 2 ArtStop the ABQ Artwalk Outdoor Market – Come by 7th and Gold from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for outdoor artisans, food trucks, and live music.

  • August 2-3 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

  • August 2-4 Shrek the Musical Jr. – Shrek and his friends take over the UNM Rodey Theater Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between August 2 and 11.

  • August 3 Downtown Growers’ Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park.

  • August 3 Cruzin’ into the School Year – This event offering free school supplies, a car show, and more is happening at the Mesa Verde & West Mesa community centers from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Preregistration is required.

  • August 3 Winrock Market – This market presented by Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union will be at Winrock Town Center from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • August 3 Westside Summerfest – This free family-friendly event features fun for everyone. Enjoy handcrafted products at the Shops, food trucks, local breweries, wineries, and distilleries, and a night full of local bands on two stages. Starts at 5:00 p.m. and goes until 10:00 p.m.

  • August 3-4 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

  • August 4 TMNT Meet & Greet – Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at Cottonwood Mall. This free event runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • July 31 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

New Mexico

  • August 2 Launch Pad Lecture – Held on the first Friday of every month at the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

  • August 2 El Centro Family Health Job Fair – This job fair will be held at 1331 Gusdorf Rd. in Taos from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • August 2 Joey Green at Wingfield Park – This free event at Wingfield Park in Ruidoso goes from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • August 2-4 2024 Last Escape of Billy the Kid Pageant – This weekend-long series of pageants takes place at 310 W. Smokey Bear Blvd in Capitan.

  • August 3 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.

  • August 3 2024 Market Season-Saturdays – The seasonal Farmers Market at Washington Park in Alamogordo.

  • August 3 Open Space-Time – Free art-making event in Meow Wolf’s community space begins at 3:00 p.m.

  • August 3 25th Annual Bosque Farms Car Show – This event is open to all cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. Event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  • August 4 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages at 1:00 p.m.

  • August 6 Swing on the Plaza – This free event at the Plaza De Las Cruces begins with a free swing dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. and a free dance at 8:00 p.m.

Albuquerque Notices

?? Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.

?? Raymond G. Sanchez Community Center closes temporarily for pool work – The community center will be closed Monday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 4. Crews are crews working to connect the pool’s power system. The new aquatics facility will include an outdoor pool, a stand-alone waterslide, and a lobby/check-in area for guests.

?? Shoppers call for changes to make Coronado Center safer – Albuquerque police acknowledged the problem on Friday after yet another shooting at Coronado Center. Starting with the shooting outside the mall on Black Friday last year, then a shooting inside the food court back in March, and now, Friday’s incident where a security guard was shot.

?? Albuquerque will use state funding to expand community cleanup events – The City of Albuquerque’s Solid Waste Department and Keep Albuquerque Beautiful have received $60,000 in state funding to help clean up the community. The money will be used to expand two city-wide community cleanup events and allow the department to help residents host cleanup events in their neighborhoods.

?? City of Albuquerque providing food, clothes for families in need – The City of Albuquerque has several resources available for families who may need assistance with food and clothes during the summer. Resources include summer youth programs, clothing banks, and food assistance.

?? Summer program helps Albuquerque students prepare for next school year – Horizons Albuquerque is helping under-resourced students in grades 1 through 11 with the goal of advancing educational equity. Students not only focus on academics, but also learn skills like guitar playing, robotics, and how to swim.

?? City of Albuquerque looking for volunteers to help monitor trails – Trail Watch volunteers work under the Open Space Division and report wildlife and visitor activities, maintenance needs, suspicious activity, and other information. Training and a background check are required to become a Trail Watch Volunteer.

?? Free summer lunch program returns in Bernalillo County – Beginning June 3, free lunch will be served daily to children at different locations around Bernalillo County. Children must be between the ages of 1 to 18 years old to receive a meal. Meals must be consumed at the meal site (except for non-congregate sites), all meals are first come, first served, and participants must receive the entire meal.

?? Explora hosting Mosaic of Marks, Words, and Material exhibition – The exhibition runs from May 15 – August 16. The exhibit will include an art studio where young visitors, their families, and educators can explore hands-on mark-making materials.

?? New Mexico State Fair holding auditions to sing the National Anthem – The live auditions will be at the Boxcar Stage from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the EXPO New Mexico on August 6. To audition live, you must sign up by August 5.

New Mexico Notices

?? New Mexico State Fair announces official beer for 2024 – Ex Novo’s new Barrel Racer Blonde will be on tap at the fair in September and at retailers across the state starting Aug. 6. Barrel Racer Blonde was brewed with American and German noble hops. It will also be served at Ex Novo Brewing, 4895 Corrales Road in Corrales. The New Mexico State Fair is scheduled for Sept. 5-15.

?? NMDOT receives $71M grant to replace two bridges on I-25 in Socorro County – The grant funding is through the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) competitive Bridge Investment Program and will go toward new bridges that span over Nogal Canyon. NMDOT said the existing truss bridges have experienced deterioration and are approaching the end of their service lives.

?? City of Las Vegas easing water restrictions for restaurants, car washes – The city implemented restrictions in June when heavy rains hit the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Fire burn scar and washed soot and debris into the city’s water supply. The city said they are able to ease up the restrictions because water reserves have been stabilized.

?? New Medicaid programs launching in New Mexico – Food-insecure pregnant beneficiaries with nutrition-sensitive conditions, such as gestational diabetes, will be eligible to receive nutritious, prepared meals or healthy groceries to support their health needs and improve maternal health outcomes in New Mexico. The state is now going to start an implementation planning process in order to launch these new programs in 2025.

?? Santa Fe County opens new Regional Emergency Communication Center – The state-of-the-art emergency dispatch center equips dispatchers with cutting-edge technology, including modernized dispatch consoles and redundant systems.

?? Free summer food service program for children resumes in New Mexico – The Early Childhood Education and Care Department in New Mexico has begun its free food service for children ages 1-18. The service aims to provide free meals to children during summer break. The department said more than 600 locations in the state are providing free meals through August.

?? Federal funding will help three New Mexico tribal communities build affordable housing – Three tribal communities in New Mexico were awarded a total of $10.5 million to create more affordable housing. The San Ildefonso Housing Authority, the Santa Clara Housing Authority, and the Zuni Housing Authority received funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

FEMA: Additional disaster assistance available for New Mexico following fires, flooding in Ruidoso area – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Wednesday announced that President Joe Biden authorized an increase to the federal cost share to 100% for 30 days. The additional disaster assistance will also cover emergency protective measures.

?? Hot food SNAP benefits extended in NM; Disaster food benefits expanded to Rio Arriba, San Juan counties – SNAP customers in New Mexico will have an additional 30 days, or until Aug. 25, to purchase hot prepared foods from deli departments at EBT-authorized retailers. The New Mexico Health Care Authority requested and was granted this emergency measure in the wake of fires and flooding. This benefit is not applicable to restaurants or other non-EBT-authorized retailers.

?? Santa Fe hosts ‘Summer Fire Truck Spray Down’ events for kids – The City of Santa Fe Community Engagement Department and Santa Fe Fire Department are providing a free way for kids to cool down this summer. The departments host “Summer Fire Truck Spray Down” events at Swan Park.
