Harrisburg students partake in outdoor education program at Wildwood Park

(WHTM)– Tuesday’s hometown heroes are providing an outdoor classroom for students.

Wildwood Park in Harrisburg hosted its first education program of the season. The park welcomed 5th graders from Melrose Elementary in Harrisburg with special activities to learn about the animals there.

“For our kids, its important to get out,” Lead Director of Community Engagement for Aetna Angela Kritzer said. “Get away from their screens for a bit, and they can really learn about nature, they can go hiking, and all of the different things, so we’re really excited to be bale to bring that to support that out here in the community.”

“So they can understand nature and how it affects them on a daily basis, and just pulling all the different ideas they learned from the day, what they’ve learned in the classroom, just being able to pull it together, and have that ‘a ha’ moment,” Melrose Elementary Principal Matthew Shore said.

Along with the start of outdoor education programs Wildwood Park is also marking the 25th anniversary of its Olewine Nature Center.
