I’ve said it before: If it looks and feels like foundation, it’s not for me. Anything with more coverage than barely there, second skin-feel Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (the same one Sydney Sweeney and Maude Apatow use) makes my skin crawl. I have similar disdain for most facial sunscreen products, with that common chemical smell and chalky film coating leaving my skin feeling gross.

In general, my skin is pretty healthy and smooth. However, I do suffer from mild rosacea, so my tone is slightly blotchy and red in spots. This is where a great tinted moisturizer or extremely light foundation is a must-have. My latest find? The Eucerin Tinted Age Defense with SPF 50. Eucerin recently sent me a few of their latest products, and the first one I grabbed out of the box was its just-released, antioxidant-infused tinted moisturizer. In order to test it out, I applied the product to half of my face and immediately noted that it had a slight sunscreen scent, but it isn’t overpowering.

Similar to other popular SPF skin tints, including Elta MD and Drmtlgy, the “one tint fits all” shade helps mostly with discoloration, but won’t really cover any blemishes or major imperfections. However, unlike some of the other products I have used, not only did it tone down the redness of my skin, but it left behind a glossy, mermaid skin-like glow with a second skin-finish. While you might not feel the need to apply makeup over the product, it makes for a great dewy base for foundation, bronzer, and blush.

And, not only does the under-$20 tint offer UVA/UVB sun protection, but it’s fueled with the brand’s trademark antioxidant shield that includes anti-inflammatory ingredients derived from licorice root extract, vitamins C and E, and hyaluronic acid. It also protects against other free radicals and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone, per the brand.

As someone with sensitive skin that tends to break out easily, I wore the hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic tinted moisturizer for a week without any flare ups or clogged pores. The only con is that the product is not water-resistant, making it a better option for daily wear versus for days at the pool or the beach (unless you pair it with another sunscreen). Early Amazon testers of the product also say the skin tint is “super gentle” and “blends into skin perfectly.”

If you are searching for an alternative to foundation with skin-saving sun protection, add the Eucerin Tinted Age Defense with SPF 50 into your daily rotation.
