Heading to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park this 4th of July? Here are some tips
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is expecting a significant increase in visitors this Fourth of July weekend.
Due to expected congestion, rangers recommend beating the midday rush by arriving before 9 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
Visitors who purchase park passes in advance can access the fast pass lane. Passes can be found online or by scanning the QR code below.
Staff say limited parking is to be expected, especially in popular areas such as the Giant Forest. Taking advantage of the free Sequoia Shuttle, which offers transportation within the park will likely save time.
Visitors are advised to stay out of the rivers and use caution on slippery rocks near the water. Most incidents occur from accidental slips, and not intentional swimming, rangers say.
Fireworks are prohibited, and due to weather conditions, wood and charcoal fires are also not allowed in developed campgrounds or designated picnic areas located 3,000 ft and below in elevation.
As there is no cell phone service in most areas of the park, staff recommend planning visits in advance by visiting their website or by downloading the National Park Service app.
