Headwaters Music and Arts to hold summer paper-making, writing camp

Jun. 24—BEMIDJI — Headwaters Music and Arts

is set to hold a paper-making and writing camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 15-19 and Aug. 5-9 at Headwaters, 519 Minnesota Ave. NW.

This camp, for youth entering grades 3-12, will teach attendees how to compose and illustrate several styles of writing including graphic novels, short poems and stories.

Participants will explore basic drawing techniques using graphite pencils and pens including value, shading techniques and perspective. They will also meet and work with area professional writers and artists, explore local art galleries and spend time journaling at cafes, a release said.

Back in the art studio, campers will learn the art of paper making and bind pages into a small book.

Artist Shannan Stormy Reyes will lead these week-long summer experiences filled with imagination, cultural exploration and lasting friendships, the release said.

Space for the program is limited to 20 participants per session; advance registration is required.

The registration deadline for the July session is Monday, July 1. The deadline for the August session is Monday, July 22.

The cost to attend is $200 per participant. Headwaters waives the fee for 21st Century Learning Program participants and scholarships are available, the release said.
