How Heidi Klum's Peacock Costume Came to Be (Exclusive)

Heidi Klum has once again floored fans with her Halloween costume this year, but she wouldn't have been able to spread her wings if it weren't for the help of Cirque du Soleil.
After the supermodel, 50, unveiled this year's jaw-dropping peacock costume at her annual Halloween party on Tuesday, Oct. 31, fans were just dying to know how she pulled off such an extravagant look, which even involved the help of several performers who made up the peacock's feathers.
Parade got the exclusive inside scoop on Klum's over-the-top costume from none other than Cirque du Soleil creative director Michel Laprise, who spilled the tea on the making of the intricately crafted costume.
According to Laprise, Klum actually contacted Cirque du Soleil herself to enlist the help for this year's Halloween surprise, and despite not usually taking on collaborations with such big stars, Laprise ultimately agreed.
"I could feel her full commitment," Laprise told us, noting that Klum was "very involved" throughout the whole process.
Klum ended up flying from Los Angeles to Montreal in mid-October in order to test out the concept of posing with acrobats for a dynamic Halloween costume like nothing anyone had ever seen before.
"She had a blast and everybody was working really hard," Laprise said, adding that there were 10 acrobats assisting with the peacock feathers, along with 29 people from the costume workshop.
It took almost 2,000 hours of work to complete the magnificent piece, which translates to about 80 days of work.
"You could see everybody super focused," Laprise further shared of the painstaking work that went into creating the project, which he likened to an "intense lab" in the costume workshop.
Laprise and the Cirque du Soleil team also hit a snag in the design process after they had reserved real feathers to use for the project, before they had to switch to fake feathers for "environmental reasons and ethical reasons."
It was also presumably an expensive undertaking, although we're told that Klum fronted most of the bill herself, while Cirque du Soleil was given their own budget to put into the piece as well.
Even though the piece required a lot of time and hard work, it's safe to say the end result was worth it, as Klum put on a show-stopping display at this year's event.
Now, Klum's peacock piece can join the rest of the iconic looks of Halloweens past, including the year she went as Princess Fiona from Shrek, last year's giant worm costume, and many, many more!
