Hello, Here’s Everything You Need to Know About How to Watch the VMAs
Soooooo, the MTV VMAs are going to look a little different this year due to, you know, the fact that we're in the middle of a literal pandemic and it's not safe for large groups of people to gather inside and scream at celebrities. But apparently the show must go on even when everyone's a little ?? about the whole thing, and the VMAs are fully happening! Here’s what you need to know about music's wildest night, and how to stream this thing.
First, when is it even happening?
Great question: the show airs at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, August 30, and is being hosted by Keke Palmer! P.S.: Wanna know who's nominated? Here ya go.
Okay, great. Now how can I watch?
If you, like, own an actual TV, simply turn that sh*t on! If not, the show will be streaming across MTV's digital platforms—including MTV.com. If you're experiencing trouble streaming, you can also go ahead and download the MTV app.
What can I expect this year?
Truly, who knows. But it kinda sounds like we're going to be in for a combination of something resembling a fancy Zoom session, and several live performances which will pop up around NYC. For those of you understandably concerned about health and safety amid the pandemic, here's what MTV has to say:
The 2020 VMAs will be held on Sunday, August 30 and pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the city with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines. In close consultation with state and local health officials?, it became clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event. The VMAs will highlight the boroughs in an exciting show and return to Barclays Center in 2021. MTV will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, state and local officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders to ensure the safety of all involved.
Cool-cool-cool. But no matter how the VMAs look this year, the list of performers is pretty impressive considering *gestures wildly* everything going on. Let's see, BTS is performing at the show for the first time ever, plus you can expect performances from Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Maluma, The Black Eyed Peas, and CNCO—among others.
FWIW, Cosmopolitan will be covering every second of this awards show, so come back here for all the tea.
