Here's Everyone Who Died in the 'Game of Thrones' Finale
Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8. If you don't want to know what happens, turn back!
On Sunday night, the world said goodbye to Game of Thrones. After eight years and eight epic seasons, the HBO series ended with Jon Snow killing Daenerys, and Tyrion persuading the rules of the most powerful houses to vote...wait for it...Bran "The Broken" Stark as king. Sansa declares the North an independent kingdom, and Bran asks Tyrion to be his hand. Bran sends Jon to the Night's Watch to make peace with Dany's supporters, where he's reunited with Tormund and Ghost (!), and Arya boards a ship to explore whatever's west of Westeros.
While most major characters are moving on toward a new future, some of 'em didn't make it to the end of the series. C'mon, the most violent show on TV wouldn't be complete without a few last deaths! What a shame-they were one episode away from surviving the whole thing.
Who died in the Game of Thrones finale?
Honestly, not too many people-by Thrones standards, at least. Here's the complete list:
? Jaime and Cersei Lannister: though we watched them get crushed by rocks in episode five, the sight of their corpses in the finale confirmed their deaths-squashing all theories that at least one of them somehow survived.
? A soldier who fought for Cersei: had his throat slit by Grey Worm even after Jon Snow tried to stop it from happening.
? Probably the other soldiers kneeling beside him, too: see above.
? Daenerys Targaryen: stabbed by Jon Snow during a nifty make-out fake-out. He pledged his allegiance to her in the throne room, and as they kissed, he plunged his sword into her chest.
? The Iron Throne: melted by Drogon's fire immediately after Dany's death. How fitting for the final episode, as you can't have a Game of Thrones without, you know, a throne.
