Here's Why Fans Think Harry Styles Boycotted Adidas and Kanye During His Concert

It's the subtle, immediate support for me. ??

Harry Styles' concerts are known for a lot of things — you can expect to see feather boas, hilarious fan signs, and plenty of glitter. Perhaps he'll even sing Medicine. You can also safely assume that Harry will be wearing head-to-toe Gucci, including his shoes, which have been the retro-style Adidas x Gucci Gazelles for every single tour performance...until now.

Fans at Harry's concert at the Kia Forum in California earlier this week noticed that the Watermelon Sugar singer had ditched the velvet sneaks in favor of a pair of Vans. Fan account @harryflorals posted a video of Harry dancing on stage in a red and blue ringer tee with a glitter ice cream cone on the front, showing off a pair of matching bright red non-Adidas sneakers for the first time on this tour. "VANS!!!?" commented one observant, shocked fan, while another asked, "Where are his Gucci Gazelles?" Another fan concluded, "NOT SUPPORTING ADIDAS ??????."

While there has been no official statement from Harry or his team, fans on Twitter took notice of how Harry's intentional choice to not wear Adidas sneakers on stage coincided with the brand's then-pending decision to sever ties with Kanye West.

One Twitter user thanked Harry and his stylist for their choice, saying, "Thank you @harry_styles and @harry__lambert for going with Vans last night instead of @adidas. We see your decision, and it means so much to me and all your other Jewish fans, and those who stand with us against antisemitism in all its forms." Another user Tweeted, "Harry Styles wearing adidas every show of tour until they hesitate to drop Kanye and he instantly breaks out vans….. I see u @harry__lambert @Harry_Styles."

Need a refresher on what's been happening with Kanye? The rapper and designer showed “White Lives Matter” T-shirts during his Yeezy show at Paris Fashion Week, got suspended on Instagram for bullying, and then proceeded to spread hateful, anti-Semitic comments online with no remorse. The rapper lost his partnership with Balenciaga, and now, Adidas.

After much urging from public figures and customers on social media, the sportswear brand finally came out with a statement on their partnership with Kanye that read, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

Kim Kardashian has also spoken out against Kanye's anti-Semitic comments, saying, “Hate speech is never OK or excusable." She wrote on her Instagram stories, “I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end.”
