Would you try a s'more-topped burger? Hersheypark fans are saying they 'just love' this seasonal treat
It's the mashup we didn't know we needed — a chocolate-and-marshmallow-topped burger that's giving Hersheypark guests even s'more reasons to love dining at the Pennsylvania theme park.
From now through Aug. 14, the Hershey, Penn. property will celebrate National S'Mores Day, which officially falls on Aug. 10, by adding over a dozen s'more-inspired foods to menus across its theme park and resorts. But, as the theme park that celebrates all things chocolate, Hersheypark has one-upped itself with the epic return of fan-favorite creation — the S'mores Burger.
A treat that has everyone talking, the S'mores Burger is a monster of a creation featuring a half-pound burger that tests the limits by mixing sweet with savory. The boundary-pushing dish is made with a beef patty topped with chocolate balsamic sauce and bacon meringue, Hersheypark shares.
Ketchup and mustard, peanut butter and jelly: Some things just belong together. But, S'mores and a burger? The question that's on everyone's mind is ... how does it taste?
"[It tastes like] sweet heaven," Cher Harris, a corporate pastry executive chef at Hershey Entertainment and Resorts tells Yahoo Life. "It's a combination of bacon-flavored crumbly sweetness on a great burger with a sweet acidic sauce."
The verdict is already out on social media, with fans agreeing the multi-layered flavor profile does indeed work. On an Instagram post sharing a photo of the burger, one park guest commented, "My daughter had this yesterday and just loved it."
One follower said, "This is actually very creative, and sounds really good," while another wrote, "This will be mine."
Want to try one, too? The S'mores Burger is only available at East Coast Burger Works in Hersheypark's water park, the Boardwalk.
But how did the chefs at Hersheypark dream up such a creation? "The creativity of our incredible culinary team," Harris says. "Every year, we have a great collaboration of ideas for S'mores Week all throughout Hersheypark."
During S'Mores Week, which takes place from Aug. 8-14, beloved Hersheypark treats, like the King Size Shake and King Size Donut receive a s'mores twist. In the park's most recent expansion, Chocolatetown, guests can also salivate over a Hershey S'mores Sundae, a gooey S'mores Sandwich and a S'mores Martini. New this year, guests visiting the park's flagship resort, the Hotel Hershey, can enjoy toasted marshmallow ice cream on a stick — a sweet spin on a traditional popsicle that combines homemade toasted marshmallow with cherry sauce and a graham cracker cookie. The Hershey Lodge beckons visitors to save room for dessert with its offerings, including s'mores ice cream cake and a skillet s'mores fondue.
The central Pennsylvania theme park is known for its outstanding food and beverage program, including chocolate concoctions and buttery Dutch-style soft pretzels. Innovation has always been a cornerstone of the park, which opened in 1906. Now dubbed "the sweetest place on Earth," Hersheypark was the brainchild of chocolate giant Milton Hershey, who revolutionized the small factory town. It has grown to become a sought-after family-friendly destination with globally-recognized roller coasters.
The park is also gearing up for Dark Nights, its first-ever Halloween event, where guests can expect thrills — and even more wild creations from the culinary team.
Can't make it to Hersheypark? You can try making the S'Mores Burger yourself at home.
"Add store-bought meringues and crumble with crisp bacon upon your favorite burger," says Harris. "Then try mixing Hershey's chocolate syrup with a balsamic reduction, drizzle it on top and enjoy."
