How cottage cheese makes a healthier pizza crust
A traditional yeast dough crust creates a fluffy and delicious pizza. However, it could also lead to excess carb and calorie intake. The easy fix: Use cottage cheese to make a lightened up yet crispy crust. One cup of this dairy contains about 216 calories, 26 grams of protein and 6 grams of carbs. When eaten as part of a balanced diet, this cheese may aid heart health, weight loss and lower chronic disease risk. In addition to its low-carb, high-protein benefits, a crust made cottage cheese is easy to whip up.

The key to a crispy and golden brown pizza
Many cottage cheese pizza recipes simply use the dairy and any seasonings to make the crust. No flour, yeast or water. To ensure the crust bakes nicely, spread an even layer of cheese onto a parchment-lined sheet tray. Then, bake the cheese until it’s beginning to brown before adding the sauce and toppings. This step allows the cheese to form into a solid crust, so it does not become soggy from the ingredients on top. Once the pizza is bubbling and golden brown, it’s ready to cool and enjoy.
How to make cottage cheese pizza
TikToker @LainieCooks shares a simple Cottage Cheese Pizza recipe that she says “definitely satisfies any pizza craving!” A trio of cheeses (cottage, mozzarella and Parmesan) gives this pie a crispy yet gooey texture, which complements the hearty marinara sauce. The cheeses also provide the pizza with 50 grams of protein. For extra flavor, she suggests topping the pizza with a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil and fresh basil leaves once it’s out of the oven.
